Foreign Nationals desirous of coming into India are required to possess a valid passport of their country and a valid Indian Visa. To study in India it is mandatory for an international student to procure an Indian Student Visa. Visas can be applied for in person or by post to the High Commission of India based in the country from where the candidate intends to depart for India. Persons of Indian origin (PIO), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) who possess either OCI or PIO card do not require Indian visa. OCI and PIO card gives them freedom to visit India without visa. However, those PIO's who do not have PIO or OCI card have to apply for the student visa.

International students who wish to study in India should obtain a Student Visa before travelling to India.
Once the student has been issued a confirmed admission letter to study at the University, he/she should immediately apply for Student Visa.
The student should apply for a Student Visa before coming to India by contacting the Indian Mission in his/her home country.
The Indian Mission will be able to tell the average turnaround time for a visa application, which may be somewhere between 3 to 8 weeks.

Nationals of Nepal and Bhutan do not require visa to enter India. However, citizens of Nepal require a visa when entering India from China.
