Ayurveda also called ‘the science of life’ originated 5000 years ago and is most ancient system of healing known to man today. The study of ayurveda lays a powerful emphasis on prevention by balancing every individuals unique patter of energy that manifests as physical, mental and emotional. The science involves a careful health assessment and examination of the root of imbalance in relation to key symptoms and also a thorough evaluation for suitability of treatments. The centre of Ayurveda was the first Ayurvedic College to establish in Punjab with a 150 bedded hospital and a Panchkarma centre. The institution since its foundation in 1996 has over the years evolved from a refined college to an august university offering more than 256 professional programs today in various disciplines of engineering, science, commerce and arts.

Life on Campus

The school of Ayurveda at Desh Bhagat draws in conscientious researchers and meticulous faculty that compass a comprehensive curriculum perfected over the past two decades of it existence. Students here have the opportunity to launch successful careers in specialized fields of Ayurveda like Kayachikitsa, Rasa-Shastra, Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, Panchkarma, Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences. Learning here is amidst an ambit of countless community initiatives, medical check-up camps, rallies and hospital visits. The teaching strategies are bound to confer an invaluable exposure in examination, diagnosis, treatment and preclusion of diseases through use of herbal remedy. The university has extensive laboratories, a herbal garden for rare herbs and a pharmacy. The course work also entails students to work on live projects at the production centre to produce medicines and other ayurvedic products like ayurvedic bhasams, chanvanprash, sharbats, cough syrups, medicines, rare herbs and other Ayurvedic supplements. The resourceful learning environment on campus graciously supports intellectual engagement and connectedness to the wider world.

Ayurveda and Research as a Career Choice

With the giant Ayurvedic industry in India generating huge employment, placements are on the anvil. It is estimated that the total value of products from the entire Ayurvedic production in India is to the tune of one billion US dollars. Graduates of (BAMS) Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery and other Ayurvedic specializations like Kayachikitsa, Rasa-Shastra etc. find themselves working in various companies like Patanjali, Sri Sri Ayurveda, Emami, Dabur India Ltd., Himalaya, Baidyanath, Zandu Pharmaceutical Works, Vicco Laboratories, Charak Pharmaceuticals and Hindustan Unilever. The major market in Ayurvedic export division deals in pharmaceuticals, herbal cosmetics, toiletries and nutritive supplements.
